About the Film

"IS THIS A DAD THING?" is a groundbreaking short documentary following Jacob (he/they), a non-binary filmmaker, as he explores the possibility of male breastfeeding. The film challenges traditional ideas of parenting by delving into gender roles, reproductive health, and body autonomy, sparking conversations around inclusion and equal parenting.


How Your Contributions Will Be Used

PRIMARY GOALS - 50% ($5000) - Finishing Fund

*** To complete the film and begin festival submissions.

  • GOAL 1: Post-Production Costs – $3,000

    To compensate our editor, sound designer, colorist, and composer for their invaluable expertise in crafting the final version of the film.

  • GOAL 2: PR & Festival Submissions – $2,000

    To cover the costs of festival submission fees and the creation of promotional materials like a poster and trailer, ensuring the film reaches a broad and diverse audience.

STRETCH GOALS - 50% ($5000) - Reimbursement

*** To reimburse and compensate our team who generously donated time and equipment.

  • STRETCH GOAL 1: Equipment Reimbursement – $2,000

    Over the past three years, the directors personally covered equipment expenses. This funding will allow us to reimburse them for their generous investment in the project.

  • STREICH GOAL 2: Production Crew Compensation – $3,000

    Many of our talented crew members generously donated their time during production. We would love to honor their contributions by offering compensation for their hard work.

Meet the Filmmakers

Jacob Wolf Lefton - Director/Participant
Jacob Wolf Lefton (he/they) is an actor and filmmaker in Berlin who plays male and nonbinary roles. His films address questions of belonging, obligation, and cultural identity. He co-wrote and acted in “Until Death Do Us Part,” which won the Filmapalooza 2020 World Film Challenge. He also supported participatory documentary methodologies as part of a peacebuilding process in the Philippines.
 
Dasha Altukhova - Director/Editor
Dasha Altukhova (she) is a visual artist and filmmaker with a background in stage acting and physical performance. Her artistic approach focuses on personal themes, including existential givens, body, and memory. She directed one short and one medium-length documentary film and various commercial projects. Her works were screened at the European Film Awards, Doc. Berlin, Norwich Queer Festival.

Selena Leoni, Little Paws Pictures - Producer
Selena Leoni (she) is a transnational producer with over a decade of experience in film, television, and multimedia. With a stellar track record, she has led diverse projects across genres that reached various platforms, including STARZ, Amazon Prime, and Apple TV, and earned recognition at prestigious festivals such as Shortlist for the 2024 Academy Awards and an Honorable Mention on the 2024 Gold List.
